Applying a license to the QlikView Desktop client fails with the error:

QlikView cannot get valid information from license key

The client remains in Personal Edition status.

Resolution

The error is most likely caused by the license being a QlikView Server license, rather than a dedicated QlikView Desktop license. QlikView Server licenses cannot be used to activate a desktop client directly and a license will instead need to be leased. How do I verify what type of license I am using?

To verify if you are using a QlikView Desktop or a QlikView Server license, review the LEF. Instructions can be found in How to request a control number and LEF.

Once you obtained the LEF, find the line reading ProductLevel.

3 = QlikView Desktop,
10 = QlikView Server
