Qlik Sense Repository Database starts and stops: "FATAL: lock file "postmaster.pid" already exists"

The Qlik Sense Repository Database service starts and stops immediately.

The Windows Events Application logs show the following error:

FATAL: lock file "postmaster.pid" already exists HINT: Is another postmaster (PID XXXX) running in data directory "C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL\9.x

Environment

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows any version

Cause

The service previously hung while stopping.

Resolution

Reboot the Windows Host.

If this does not resolve the issue, proceed with:

Stop all Qlik Sense services
Delete the postmaster.pid file contained in C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL\9.6 (9.6 represents the PostgreSQL version - this may vary based on your Qlik Sense version)
In an elevated prompt, run
```
Taskkill /PID XXXX /F
```
(replace XXXX with the PID from the Windows Event logs error)
Start the Qlik Sense Services in the correct order
