CAL (Client Access License) information is stored in a combination of PGO files. If information becomes corrupt or is lost, the only way to bring back the CAL assignments without reassigning them all is to restore the PGO files from a backup. This article will describe steps to restore the necessary files from a backup.

For information on how to create a backup, please review this article: How to make a backup of PGO files

Environment:

QlikView all versions

Resolution

Instructions for restoring PGO files from a backup:

From the Windows Services applet (Start menu > search for "services"), stop the Qlikview Server service.

Locate the current files that will be removed. They are stored in two locations and are listed as follows:

The root folder. The location of this folders are defined in the QMC > System > Setup > QlikView Server > Folders tab > Root folder

BorrowedCalDat.pgo

CalData.pgo

IniData.pgo

ServerCounters.pgo

TicketData.pgo

The QlikTech\QlikViewServer folder.
The default file path is %ProgramData%\QlikTech\QlikViewServer

FUL.dat

CalData.pgo

IniData.pgo

ServerCounters.pgo

BorrowedCalData.pgo

TicketData.pgo

Move the old PGO files that will be replaced to a new folder (you can call it 'OldPGOs'). Make sure to do this on all QlikView Servers if running a cluster.

Now move the backup files to their proper locations: the Root folder AND the QlikTech\QlikViewServer folder (the file paths are as previously mentioned in step 2).

Start the QlikView Server service again.

Check in the QMC to verify that the CAL assignments are restored to the way they were when the backup was originally made.

Can you please help me with understanding what all precautions need to be taken before restoring a backup of these pgo files. I am currently migrating a qlikview environment, & need to reassign the Doc CALs.

Just need to make sure I have all the possibilities addressed before actually trying this step.

Regards,

Hello @Rohan

Having a backup of your current situation is the only precaution we can offer. Though, usually, the backup restoration is intended to either resolve an issue (meaning the current setup is incorrect) or to assist in migration (meaning the current setup has no allocations at all), so having to fall back is not generally intended.

My concern is from the migration pov, since i have missed any the dashboard to be published on accesspoint & restore the pgo files, what can the impact be ? & later if i publish that missing dashboard, will it assign the doc CALs correctly or not assign any at all.

We do not have a testing scenario for this. I would recommend testing your migration in a test environment first to verify your workflow and then migrating to a new production environment. If you need direct assistance with this, we can recommend our professional services.
