thanks, but I don't see how that question/answer tells me what algorithm Talend is using

Hello,

What's issue are you getting when using tFTPConnection component?

Though there are different ways to manage passwords in talend, Globally talend use PGP(Pretty Good Privacy ) encryption and classic Hash MD5,SHA-1(Secure Hash Algorithm -1) algorithm for encryption and decryption accordingly.

I actually don't have an issue at the moment; the security team want to know what cipher is being used.

Out of interest, where in the documentation is this stated?

So far, there is no official documentation shared to community users about How talend encrypt the passwords.
