Creating processing type components using the Talend Component Kit?

Can the Talend Component Kit be used to create a processing type component? One that accepts row data input, transforms, and then outputs row data? How would we access the manipulate the data within the component in a reasonable way?

Could you please elaborate your case with an example? Here is a talend component TalendHelpCenter:tConvertType which converts one Talend java type to another automatically. Let us know if it is what you are looking for.
