Hi,

I'm working on Talend Data Integration 6.2.1 and I see it is compatible with PostgreSQL up to version 9.4

I guess this compatibility specification is related to the database behind Talend, and NOT the external DBs accessed by Jobs for Data Integration purpose.

Can you confirm?

Then, in my Talend Open Studio 6.2.1, when I set a tPostgresqlInput Component, I see a combo-box "DB Version" which offers two choices:

- Prior to v9

- v9.X

Can you confirm, then, I can access to PostgreSQL v.9.6, safely, even though Talend Suite itself is compatible up to the PostgreSQL v.9.4 (for his internal TAC DB)?

Hi Lorenzo,

I did not use 6.2 long times, but as I remember - we have not any problems for 6.2 with PostgreSQL 9.6 since it was released

same as we use 6.4 for PostgeSQL 10 and Talend 7 for PostgreSQL 11 (sure for most of cases, possible for all what used by Talend and 6.2 will work with 10 and 11, but need test of course)

thanks for your answer. Could you plase, also, clarify about the compatibility matrix which I liked above?

I mean, I would like to completely understand if that compatibility matrix is just related to the DB "behind" Talend, or not.

btw, why you just not test?

I can not test because do not use 6.2, but think it must work

Dear @vapukov

I will test, of course, but I cannot test every case. And to test I have to upgrade my test DB. And upgrade it requires some efforts (and costs), also because that DB is not only accessed/used by Talend (we are not upgrading the internal TAC DB, of course). And in case of version rollback, it would affect not just Talend but also other our internal applications... and so on...

For this reason, before updating our DBs, we would like (as it should happen for any commercial product) to have a competent opinion by the product experts.

I think it is reasonable, and "I cannot test because..." makes me a bit worried. But, yes, this is not the official Talend Tech Support, it is just a Forum 🙂

First of all,

because it is a forum - any answer here can not be used for the excuse when anything stops work 😉

some guys from other hemisphere told me it is work - it is not a answer

so you must test it by your self and in part of your PostgreSQL operations.

You always could send an official request for Talend support, but even there I not sure what would be an answer - recommendation for migration or ...

Second,

for me - it is:

downgrade Mac OS
downgrade Java
downgrade Talend
and install Postgres 9.6 - about this read below

For you - it is just install PostgreSQL, for example in Docker container

Third,

even if you found a person who is still on 6.2 and on PostgreSQL 9.6, and who is active here - you must ask him about any important for you operations , plus you must confirm - is he use subscription version or Open Studio and etc

it is not too much for testing, but still, a lot of people do not use all possible operations

release date of Talend 6.2 - Jun 2016,

release date of PostgreSQL 9.6 - September 2016
