Hello,
I had the same problem and solved it by using tXSDvalidator component. It is able to validate the XML structure but also to detect if the file is not XML well formed.
Regards.

I just made a new test using tXSDValidator (not tDTDValidator) which access an empty file. The component correctly mentions that the file is invalid and without raising exception like you.
-can you check if you have the same with tXSDValidator ?
-Is your XML file has a specific content ?
