Can I use tSocketInput and tSocketOutput for two way communication with a remote server?

I would like to use tSocketInput and tSocketOutput for two way communication with a remote server. I will need to send a message and read the acknowledgement or error that comes back from that server. But I can't seem to make this work using these two components.

I have made it work where I use these two components to talk to each other inside Talend.

I have seen the answers from a few years ago saying this is not supported. Has there been any development on this in the last few years?

Can I do something like this in a route?

I can see that you might be able to write java code to do this if you know the details of how socket communication works (which I don't.) However if that is the only route then we have someone here who can do that.
