Mac Install

I had problems installing 3.0.0.M3 on my mac. IMO, it's not very straightforward. Here are the steps I used to install it. I hope it helps anyone else who may have problems.
First, my Mac specifics:
- Java 1.6
- Mac OS X Ver. 10.5.4
- 64 bit
Steps Used:
1.) Download the TOS-All-V3.0.0M3 Windows 32, Unix, Linux (GTK based) version (named: TOS-All-r17341-V3.0.0M3.zip after download for me).
2.) Double click the zip file on your desktop to decompress it.
3.) Next, open the folder and double click the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.tar.gz file to uncompress it.
4.) Open up a Terminal window, you should be in your home directory, and type: chmod -R 777 TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon. This will make sure that ALL of the files are executable. You should probably do 755 instead of 777, but I just wanted to make sure there were no permission issues. Close the Terminal window.
5.) Next, open the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon that appeared after step 3.
If you are running Java 1.6 by default, like I am, then you need to do the following. Otherwise, skip down to step 9.
6.) Right click on the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon file (it should have an Eclipse icon next to it) and choose "Show Package Contents" from the menu.
7.) Open up the Contents -> Info.plist file.
8.) Scroll down to the bottom of the file and you will see a key called Eclipse. It has an node and says in the comment block: "to use a specific Java version (instead of the platform's default) uncomment one of the following options:". I uncommented out the following line: -vm/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Commands/java and then saved the file and closed it.
9.) Next copy the configuration, features, plugins and workspace directory into the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon root directory where the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.app (Eclipse icon) application file is located.
10.) Double click the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.app (Eclipse icon) application file and it should start up.
Maybe this was self explanatory to the other Mac users out there, but it wasn't to me. Took me almost 2 hrs to get this working right.

Are you running an Intel based Mac ?
I followed your instructions but it doesn't work. Says that the app is not supported on this architecture.
I'm running a new Intel mac with 10.5.5 and the latest java update but am using the 1.5 jvm.
Would love to be able to use TOS on my mac.

I am having the self same problem - it appears that my machine thinks that Eclipse is Power Architecture only...

the mac osx specifics files are broken. I could solve the problem by taking from my eclipse installation the following files :
- eclipse (alias)
- eclipse.app
Copy those 2 files into the TOS directory.
Make a "Show package contents" on the "TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.app" file and go to Contents/MacOS
Open the TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.ini file and copy the entire content in the clipboard
Make a "Show package contents" on the "eclipse.app" file and go to Contents/MacOS
Open the eclipse.ini file and override the content with what you copied before. Save the file.
Double click on eclipse.app and enjoy !

This has worked well for me too. Step 1: download and unzip the Eclipse package. Step 2: download and unzip the TOS package. Step 3: move the TOS folder into Applications. Step 4: copy and change the two files from the eclipse folder, as per directions given above.
Now I click on eclipse.app to launch TOS, but who cares? Many thanks for this wonderful tip.

The copy of eclipse and modification of the eclipse.ini file worked for me on a late 2008 Mac Book Pro unibody with OS X 10.5.6.

was able to fix without the files from an eclipse-installation.
used version: TOS-All-r20205-V3.0.2
start terminal.app
1. cd to <INSTALLDIR>/TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.app/Contents/MacOS
2. set the executable-bit on TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon (chmod +x TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon).
3. cd to <INSTALLDIR>/TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon.app/Contents/
4. open Info.plist in your editor and replace the String-Value for CFBundleExecutable from eclipse to TalendOpenStudio-macosx-carbon
save the file and you are done (at least I was done and Talend started up fine).

This problem still occurs with TOS V3.0.3. The fix of Oliver Gassner works like a charm. Is there a reason why the Talend team did not include this fix into the official distribution?

It seems to simpler remove the OS-X strings from the webpage than actually testing the product on this platform. Sad.

Hi All
Despite all the messages in the thread, you still have to manually do all the described operations by hand to be able to use it properly on a Mac.
Still happens on TOS 3.0.4
Any idea of when we won't have to do that again ?
Thanks Leopard for showing us a no go symbol on the "Eclipse" icon of TOS.
If only it was the only problem on Mac OS...
Sigh....

The MOST VERY BEST AND SIMPLE INSTALL ON MAC OS X Intel and PPC is this:
- without the files from an eclipse-installation
- without update java
- only with TOS-All-release-V3.1.x files!
For me it's work to 😉

This works also perfectly for me :
OS 10.5.7
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_19-b02-304)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_19-137, mixed mode, sharing)
