I want to know if i can upgrade my Talend Open Studio to a newer version ? or it can't be done with the free version .

Basically what you need to do is download the latest version, install/unzip it and import your projects from a previous version there.

The link below, although is meant for subscription editions, should provide enough information about importing projects from other versions:
