We are experiencing the same issue. On two development servers as well as on several laptops, the responsiveness of QlikView Desktop has noticeably deteriorated following the update to the 2025 SR1 release.

This applies to all stages of usage: from launching QlikView Desktop (even without opening a QVW file), to opening QVW documents, and continuing through regular work within a dashboard. Actions such as selecting values, moving objects, or opening configuration dialogs are all significantly slower than prior to the update.

A complete reinstallation of the software has also not resolved the problem.

Afternoon everyone,

Once again, I am looking to the forum for some advice on an issue that may or may not be a problem.

We recently upgraded to QlikView 12.100.20100.11 (September 2025 SR1) and noticed that the rate in which the app refreshes the screen seems to be very slow. When opening Qlik desktop the app opens but is not maximised. Just clicking on the maximise button the screen does not refresh quickly or smoothly. A portion maximises and there is a definite pause after which the refreshes again and maximises. This is whithout any .qvw loaded.

It also feels that there is a delay between clicking on a selection and the app responding to the selection just made. While this pause is very short it does add up when making many selections.

I have tested this on our sever where we connect using a remote desktop connection as well as on my i7 laptop and both behave in a similar way.

On the server connection I have tied to reduce screen resolution, but this did not help.

Are there any other setting in Qlik Desktop that will help to improve this aspect of the performance?

Regards

Assuming you run QlikView Desktop from a shortcut (Start menu, desktop shortcut, or whatnot), you can set the properties of that shortcut to open in full window:

You might also want to see if using some of the compatibility settings for QV.exe helps, though I'm not sure they will.

Otherwise, I'd try to run a packet monitor and see if you can isolate the reason it's taking a little longer on that side. If you can't, it's probably an issue with the desktop application itself and I'd perhaps try and get Qlik Support to look at it.

Take a look on the n release notes between the old and the new release if there were changes to the rendering engine or graphic settings because what you describes sounds like a kind of emulation or switching into a compatibility-mode between Qlik and the OS/graphic engine.

Thanks Marcus_sommer, appreciate your reply to my request. I can open as maximised, but I was really using that to demonstrate the slow screen response, which I think is affecting the overall performance. I used the startup as an example, as I do not believe this issue has anything to do with the underlying model. I check the compatibility settings, but those did not help. I also check the release notes and could not pick up anything that pertains to this issue. I have referred this to our network people to check the network settings. Unfortunately this issue is also present on my i7 laptop, so not confident any network issues will be found.

It seems not really related to a certain app or the data-set/data-model else that the UI itself delays the communication with the graphic engine ...

Nevertheless you may try it with a complete new app (just with a few dummy-data) or with complete new user-settings (renaming the existing settings.ini + making a backup) or with a new installation. Installing this release of a complete different machine (not the same type) could also provide some insights.

Morning, I have tried all the suggestions and have asked our IT to check server setting without any improvement. I have tested the QlikView Desktop app on my laptop, our warehouse server and another server we have access to. All 3 environments show the same symptoms I am trying to resolve. Not sure what to do next.

I think I would go with an exclusion strategy by de-installing this release and returning back to your previous release. And then installing the next major-release and the next ... not skipping one. If the one were found which showed the issue the appropriate service releases could be checked.

Now you could switch to the last stable version and investigating the release notes and the community content in more depth for any hints. The installing of the desktop client is quite fast and even a dozen installation shouldn't be cost much efforts.

Thanks for the response JeffreyMuellerDB, I always worry if I am experiencing an issue that one else seems to be experiencing. Our installation cannot be unique to the whole Qlik community that we are the only ones experiencing this. Will be interested if you find anything that may resolve or improve this issue.

Regards

Hi JeffreyMuellerDB, I un-installed QlikView desktop from my laptop, deleted any folders that mentioned Qlik or QlikView and re-installed May2024 SR1. I was able to lease a license and tested the screen refresh on the same model on our warehouse server. This difference between the 2 environments is very noticeable with May 2024 being much faster. Previously when I tested using the same version they both seemed to be sluggish. For me that shows that this is definitely an issue with September 2025 SR1. The problem is that Qlik does not recommend running a different version of the desktop and the server. Can any Qlik resource confirm what updates there were in September 2025 that could have caused the refresh rates to be affected. Also could they confirm what the issues will be if you do run an earlier version of the QV desktop on the QV server.

I would go to separate the desktop and the server - excluding any dependencies to each other. Means testing the pure desktop release (with new clean installations) without any licence (PE version) with own created applications on the local storage. Are there then any differences? On top of it the network and all security tools might be disabled - further maybe starting windows within the secured mode and then activating QV - with the aim to exclude any side-effects.

If QV is further slow it's really a bug and if it showed then a normal behaviour the main causes are known and give possibilities for further investigations.

After doing some more research It looks like September 2025 utilizes Skia Library upgrade to version 121.0.0.0. This is a library published by Google to handle graphics in apps including many browsers. There is a suggestion to try different graphics setting for the PC. I tried them all but the graphic performance has not improved. I logged a job with our local Qlik support desk. Lets see where that goes.
