When a document is opened using "Open in Server", it is indeed opened in the server. The server memory is used for data and for the calculation of objects.

However, the client memory is used for the rendering (the drawing) of the objects. This normally means just a small amount, but in some cases the amount of client memory used can be considerable. One such example is if you have a scatter chart with a very large number of data points,

You will have exactly the same effect if you use the Internet Explorer PlugIn to open a document.

HIC
