Hi All,

I am kind of new to QlikView and I have been hearing from several people that QlikView lets users create their own reports/analytics easily. Does that mean users need to learn how to use the QlikView desktop? If yes, isn’t it too technical for users to write expressions/formulas/set analysis etc? Also, if users are creating the reports/analytics, would they deploy it themselves? Can anyone please let me know their thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for helping.

Hi,

I would say yes and no to your question. I am saying yes because users can create their own analysis with QV 11. I mean users can use the Conditional Enabling of Dimensions and Facts. I mean this feature was lacking in previous versions of QV and we need to write lot of VB Script to achieve this effect. However with version 11, it is much easier for user to play with pre-defined dimension and facts/expressions. This works like a pivot table in Excel and this feature is available in other BI vendords. Here is the QV example of this feature and personally this is one my favourite feature in QV 11.

Apart from this users can create their own charts objects using existing dimensions from the data model. Here is the link on how it works.

I said no, because users will not use QV Desktop Edition to create their own analysis/ reports (unless they wanted to...)

I hope this helps!

Cheers - DV

Do we need to create a data model(QVW file) and load it into memory? How does that work?

Hi,

Sorry for not explaining in detail. Please click on the second link and watch the first video. This video demonstrates on how users can create their own analysis. Yes, we still maintain the QV document and that means we load the data into the memory. Users create their objects by using current data model. And these objects are saved for that specific users.

I hope this helps!

Cheers - DV

I've seen a demo model that someone wrote using this feature. Still I'm looking for more examples.

Do you know how can I get the QV11 Demo - i.e. the .qvw file, so I can see it's script ?

Thanks,

Yigal
