topic local qvw loading data from qvds on remote qlikview server? in QlikView https://community.qlik.com/t5/QlikView/local-qvw-loading-data-from-qvds-on-remote-qlikview-server/m-p/790783#M1035085 <HTML><HEAD></HEAD><BODY><P>Hi, we have a need for a few people to be able to combine their local files with some data from qvds that are housed on the qlikview server on their desktops for their individual tasks.&nbsp; We have numerous workarounds, but they consume time and resources and a 'death by a thousand cuts' scenario may happen long term, so looking to optimize.</P><P></P><P>I've been trying to modify the connect string qlikview server uses to access the sql database server, to make it so a local machine can access the qlikview server, but I'm missing something.&nbsp; (I have succeeded in making the qlikview server read the ftp server, the network drives, and the database.&nbsp; Just stuck on the connection string for the path of local desktop reading qlikview server.)</P><P></P><P>Presently, their choices are:</P><P>1&gt; export data from accesspoint and save it locally, then run their qlikview to combine the data with their other data</P><P>2&gt; login to the server itself and build qlikviews there. (the server has a limit on the number of people allowed to sit in it, so no room for squatters.&nbsp; We think we'd be okay with qvws zipping in and out to run their queries though.)</P><P>3&gt; Put a gazillion little single task qlikviews in accesspoint that refresh much more often than needed</P><P></P><P>They'd like to skip exporting/saving and/or logging in to qv server's remote desktop and just run their qlikview on their desktop to get their answer.&nbsp; The data they are combining with the qvds is received in large quantities once a week, not always at the same time.&nbsp; We could schedule something to refresh itself daily or hourly and let them pull from accesspoint whenever, but something more 'on-demand' would be less demanding.&nbsp; (We're working with regular QVMC and it doesn't let us schedule 'hourly from 9am to 5pm on Thursdays' the way enterprise edition can.&nbsp;&nbsp; It's pretty much 'hourly' 24/7 'daily' 24/7 and the like.)</P><P></P><P>Actually, I might make qlikview server store copies of the qvds on the network drive and let them tap those instead of the server's.
