Hi All,

Could you please briefly explain below server CAL related queries

1.) how many CAL can be assigned to single qlik view document?

2.) how many users can use one CAL ( suppose USAGE CAL )?

3.) how many users can connect thru diffirent/same CAL to same document?

1. As many as your requirement wants.

2. Only one user can use a CAL at anyone time

3. Only one user can use the Named CAL the rest can be used by multiple users.

In QlikView their are 4 types of CAL in order of cost

Session

Named

Document

Usage

A Named CAL identifies a specific User and you can assign though permissions on the server which documents they can access and what they can do with them.

A Document CAL as the name suggests allows an authorised user to connect to0 a specific document. You can assign as many as you want of these. Probably an upper limit but if you reach it probably would be better off using another type of CAL

A Session CAL allows anyone to open a connection to any documents. Useful if you have anonymous users looking to access particular documents. They access to content can be restricted through section access.

A Usage CAL is the newest type of CAL and allows anyone access to a document for 1 hour a month. Once the CAL has been used it will not be accessible until 1 month later. Again good for Anonymous usage where you might have peaks in access requests at particular times.

If you are using Small Business Server, there is a limit of 25 Named Cals and 100 Document Cals.

You cannot have Session or Usage Cals on a Small Business server

This is a server limit not a document limit.

With an Enterprise Server licence there is no licence limit.

I do not believe there is a limit on the number of cals you can assign to a single document.

Cals can be either assigned to a named user or to a named machine.

This is a setting for the whole server, you cannot mix user and machine cals on the same server.

I thought Machine ID license assignments were disabled in recent QVS versions.

If Enterprise then unlimited, provided you have enough license in hand.

2.) how many users can use one CAL ( suppose USAGE CAL )?

Usage CAL 1 use for 1 hour

3.) how many users can connect thru diffirent/same CAL to same document?

Named Use Can open any number of Document and Document Cal user will be consuming 1 License for evey document access.

Session cal costs more then Named Cal.
