When you use clone object the settings are reflected in all clone objects from the base object you create the clone object means the same settings are available in the clone object and if changes made in base copy it reflects to all. But in copy paste you have manually change settings of the object and the objects are independent. I believe this is the difference.

Hope this helps

Hi,

When u simply do paste object, it creates another object which is independent of the Source object. Whereas cloning an object creates a new copy which is exactly similar to the previous one

In qlikview, we have 2 options they are paste sheet object and one more is paste sheet object as link. And we have one more option that is clone. Whenever u do paste sheet object it simply creates a new copy which is independent of the previous one which means whenever u make change to a source object, it will not be depicted on the new object. But when u use either clone or paste sheet object as link then, they are almost same. U can use any one among them. And any changes made to source they are depicted in new object. And I think they both are beneficial as they do a same job.

It depends on the usage means if you need that the clone objects are on big numbers like 50-60 in the application then you can not go to change settings of all the objects once then you go for the clone objects otherwise you can use Copy paste objects.

If only one sheet object is active a bitmap image of the object, which can be pasted into other programs, will also be put into Clipboard.

Clone (Chart)

Makes a copy of the chart. The Clone command can also be performed by Ctrl-clicking and dragging on the chart.

If a detached chart is cloned the copy will become attached.

I think both are same, the only difference is when you use copy you can paste the object as image in MSPaint and as chart object in Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint, with clone it is not possible.

Let us see any reply from Henric Cronström (Qliktech).

Regards,

Jagan.

Hi

I don't believe there is a difference between cloning and a straight copy and paste. Cloning copies and pastes in place, whereas you can copy from one place and paste in another sheet or even another document but the end result is the same - two distinct objects.

When you right click to paste, you have an option to paste the object, or paste the object as a link.

Paste Sheet Object ... is the same as cloning - it makes a new object which is a copy or the original. If you make changes to the new object, the changes do not affect the original as they are different objects.

Paste Sheet Object as Link ... creates a new instance of the original object. If you now make changes to this new instance, you will see the changes on the original as well as they are the same object. You will also see that both objects have the same object ID.

HTH

Jonathan

There is no difference between the copy and clone. The only difference that should be mentioned is the difference between copy object (ctrl drag and drop) or copy as link (ctrl-shift drag and drop), which is well explained by Jonathan Dienst above.

HIC
