multiplying between 2 different tables

Hi im pretty sure this is the bread an butter of qlikview so unsure why it wont work,

in one table I have 2 field named contact name and hours worked

in another I have a contact name and rate.

the contact name is obviously the key but I cant seem to be ablr to multiply a persons hours worked with their associated rate.

the formula I have atm is =sum(hours) * rate

an addition to the above is that I have a collum in the first table with labelled as date, the problem seem to be cause by this as the foirmula works ina text box but when I graph it with date as the dimension it wont work

Combine both table by using left join, and then you can create new field by multiply hours and rate in script, then use that in expression.(dashboard)
