We have purchased publisher and I am logged into the admin console on the server. I want to just schedule a data refresh for my docs. I have odbc setup but don't see where to schedule the reload.

Under QMC click on Documents -> Source Documents and then pick the application you want to schedule. Then press + sign on the right and create the task based on your requirements. Once task is created you will see it on first tab Status in QMC.

Also go to Systems Tab and under setup click on qlikview servers and go to folders and you should mention the name and path where folders are residing .

I have documents here http://screencast.com/t/mrjhTARcR7S4. But I don't see them under source documents http://screencast.com/t/HaUpFD0ic. Is there something I have to do to make them show up under source documents?

On Windows Server 2008 the source documents folder is here by default: C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\SourceDocuments

We changed our default root directory for docs. http://screencast.com/t/k1xWm2WL0RR. Do I need to change something for the source documents? I guess I don't really understand the difference between the source documents and the user documents. We only have our qvw files we are trying to deploy to the access point and refresh data daily.

Source documents and user documents are usually two completely different locations. However, you can point Publisher to the same folder as the user documents folder, and "reload in place". But referring to the AccessPoint URL is not relevant to this discussion - it either has to be a local drive (e.g. C:\) or a UNC style path (\\server\share) in the Publisher configuration.

I am still confused so what is wrong in my scenario. I have documents that I have copied to the server and we can access them fine from the access point. But I see nothing in the source documents folder. Am I suppose to deploy something there that will make my user doc refresh. I still feel like I am missing something here.

I am no expert with Publisher, but am struggling to learn it as well. The lack of proper documentation makes it difficult.

Here is how I understand the Source vs User documents.

Source documents are your master documents. You may have one Source document that builds QVD files for use in another Source document.

The User documents are those Source documents that we choose to publish to our end users.

So in the example above, I would NOT publish my QVD builder document, but the one that used those QVDs I would publish.

I believe the idea behind this is that you will have more control over who sees what. It also allows Publisher to do data reduction and produce individual QVW files based on user requirements.

I have searched for documentation on how to use publisher's features but only found very rudimentary stuff in the Server manual.

Am I missing something? Where are these hidden gems of knowledge!

Most people struggle to learn Publisher. I learned it in V9 and it was mostly through trial and error and reading community posts. One way to learn it in depth is to take the official Server/Publisher training class. Each successive version there is less public documentation, unfortunately.

I think of Source Documents as my "source code", as in a software development analogy. The source code has a bunch of source files and configuration that you wouldn't ship to an end user - all they need is the "compiled" application. So all the data sources and config for a QlikView app is used to reload (recompile), and then you only published the reloaded (compiled) application to the end user in the User Documents area, which corresponds to AccessPoint.
