With our data, we use delta files which update on a daily basis. Currently we are not on server, but I have started seeing error messages as "OUT OF VIRTUAL AND/OR LOGICAL MEMORY, allocating 2MB". We do not currently utilize QVD files for all of our updates, but are moving in that direction. Will the QVDs handle this error? Or should I be concerned about something else?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

That usually means what it says: there is not enough memory to render the chart. This may be due to a huge amount of information being displayed, or because of heavy calculated dimensions... Usually nothing to do with QVDs.

A QVD file is always a best practice and will help you loading data faster, but it should have nothing to do with the User Interface.

Does that happen when reloading if you are in a specific sheet, it always happens when reloading or only with some charts?

Thanks Miguel. Yes, you are correct - it only appears to be occurring on tabs with charts. Do you have a suggestion on how to handle this problem? Also I am getting a server compatibility warning at the same time on reload.

Hi,

Simplify the chart removing or disabling expressions and dimensions to see if that helps. How many rows is the chart supposed to be moving? Does that happen at all times or only under certain circumstances?

Hi Miguel,

I have found if I limit the data by selection of fields before I upload my delta file each day, I avoid the error. Then it seems for now anyway, I can make selections as needed with the new data. We have tables with millions of rows of data, and most of the table boxes and charts contain fields which pull from these heavily populated tables. But I thought QlikView was designed to handle this much data. Is it possibly just a flaw in the way my table boxes are designed? (I am actually having the problem much more with table boxes than charts.)

Hi Josh,

Yes, QlikView can handle large data sets as long as the hardware resources are allocated accordingly. Table boxes do not use eany expressions, and it's always a best practice to limit the number of rows they can show, setting for example a calculation condition using the Get... functions.

This might be a bug, so if your hardware is good enough, open a Support case in support@qlik.com indicating your license number, hardware, exact version and build of QlikView you are using and follow their instructions.
