How to open apps with a new computer?

I got a new operating system and had to download QV again, and now I can't open my QV apps that I created. I looked thorugh my email to see if I had a license key or anything for the personal edition, but I don't seem to have one. I have more than 4 apps, so I can't just use the "freebie" unlocks. How do get my old apps to work? I may have chosen a different user name or something when I downloaded it again, so would that matter? Also, the keep my old hard drive for 2 weeks, so maybe there is a file on the old computer that I can transfer over to tell QV it's still me?

Hi Christine,

what message do you get when trying to open documents?

Do you have licensed version of QlikView? In that case you should connect your new installed QlikView Desktop application to your QV server, in order to get license again and continue to work with documents.

If you are working with unlicensed QV, documents should be created on new PC from scratch.

I get the error that says it was created by someone else & I have 4 chances to change it to me as the owner. I am using the personal version, so I don't have access to the DEV server. So you are saying there is no way to copy the key over from my old computer or anything if it's the personal edition?

You must contact your local proveerdor and request a copy of the license where it saysQlikView version is the one they have contracted.

Hi Christine,

This is the limitation of QlikView Personal Edition.

You get 4 document recoveries or freebes.

What is "Document Recovery" and when should I use it?
Please read carefully: Technically, every document is now saved with a user key -- information that ties that file to the file's creator. In Personal Edition, users can only open files that they have created.
We recognize that it may be necessary to install QlikView on a different computer (i.e. computer upgrade, replacement, etc.). In order to open documents created using the previous installation of QlikView, you will need to "recover" the files. Recovering files simply means that you are assigning an updated user key (old machine -> new machine) to these documents. When you recover a file, you are telling QlikView that you are moving this file to your new installation, and you will no longer be using it on your previous installation.
IMPORTANT: QlikView Personal Edition is limited to four recoveries per installation. When you recover a QlikView file created with a previous installation, it will apply your new user key to ALL documents created using the previous installation, not just that particular file.
DO NOT attempt to open QlikView files that you did not create (from the forums, created by a colleague, etc.) Doing so will use one of your remaining recovery attempts, and once you have exhausted all 4 of the attempts, you will no longer be able to access documents that you have created and, from that point on, you will only be able to create new documents using your current QlikView installation.

You should be able to open this first one and it will reclassify qlikview and allow you to open all the other ones from your old machine.

Hi Christine,

As mentioned by Alexander Karlsson, you will have only 4 recoveries. However, if you are having QV Server License with Named CALs then you can lease the license from the QV Server. This works for 30 days only.

OK, I opened one with a "freebie", and now they all seem to be opening after it says it will update my key. So I think I'm good now. Thanks everyone!
