If i select a range of people or products or anything in the list, it doesnt just show me that selection, it still shows all entries in the table? is this a fixed set?

May be that ,

while using set analysis in the Expression u have bypassed that field.

SUM({<Product=,People=>}Value) .Usually it happens when we bypass a field and do selections on that.

seems that you are struggling with your data-model. To check it please post a bitmap of it (tableviewer via <crtl> T) or even better an exam app.
