topic Colours in Block Chart in QlikView

Hi

What's the best way of managing colours in a Block Chart. My chart would typically have 20-30 blocks which all have different, vivid colours by default.

I'd maybe like shades of the same colour, or perhaps just the same colour for each block.

Thanks

Hi @richard_chilvers, I think the question is what you want to use the color for in your chart? I think color should have a meaning. You can use it to represent a metric based on color or saturation/shades (it could be different to the one used for the block size), or you can use it to highlight specific items. With blocks you can also use the color to group boxes in levels, or groups different to what is represented, for example customers grouped by region and coloring yellow your VIP customers.

JG

Hi @JuanGerardo Thanks for your reply.

I definitely agree that colour needs a purpose - although that purpose may simply be to incorporate the object into the corporate look and feel of the sheet.

My question arose because the Qlik default for a block chart seems to contradict this by applying colours to each block in a haphazard way. I am just wondering the best way to better manage this. At the moment I'm thinking I will just use the background colour of the expression.

Regards

Hi @richard_chilvers, default colors in Qlik Sense has a purpose (for example, the 12 color set is prepared for color blinded people). Anyway, sometimes has no much meaning when used with our own data or is not corporate.

I suggest you to have a look at the Qlik Sense themes (https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense-developer/February2021/Subsystems/Extensions/Content/Sense_Extensions/custom-themes-introduction.htm#:~:text=Qlik%20Sense%20comes%20with%20four,based%20on%20your%20company%20standards.) you can customize many properties, including default colors.

JG
