Upgrading QlikView from 2021 to 2025

Hi everyone 🙂
So I'm tasked to upgrade QlikView from the may 2021 version to the latest (sept. 2025).
I don't foresee any direct problem with it but wanted to hear if someone has that kind of experience.
Specifically if there are any items disabled or something that has changed fundamentally.

AFAIK there were various fundamental changes. Therefore you should read the all release notes since 2021 to check if these are relevant for your environment.

You may look here Search the Community - Qlik Community or by the product-downloads.

Beside this it's not recommended to skip major release by an upgrade in regard to the backward compatibility in files and settings. Further such step by step approach reduced the potentially trouble to detect causes for any issues. Also don't combine this upgrade with further changes in the environment - no new OS and/or new machine/VM and any changed network stuff - respectively not to the beginning else as the last step of renewing the environment.

AFAIK, QlikView installer consider up-gradation as fresh install. So I don't see any problem from installer work flow point of view. Just make sure that you are following all Hardware/Software pre-requisites.

As New version required updated .Net framework & supported to latest Microsfot Windows Server Operating System

Also, I recommend same which Marcus suggested in his post. Follow step by step approach. Don't jump directly from 2021 to 2025. Try to upgrade with 2021 ->2022,2022->2023, 2023->2024 & 2024 ->2025. Something like this.

Hi @SweJoCa,

Something to keep in mind is that the session algorithm QlikView uses changed in the 2023 version (12.80) to AES 256 GCM encryption. This change will effect license lease functionality of QlikView Desktop clients from QlikView Server that are older than the 2023 version. To avoid any issues, suggest that all QlikView Desktop clients in your environment also be upgraded to the 2025 version (12.100).
