In QVWS - Authentication - type, I can log in in ntml mode, but not as a Custom User.

What's the difference?

How do I log in as a custom user?

It's a decision. You used either NT or DMS as authentication.

By NT Qlik takes the authentication from the OS - controlled by the active directory which provides the possibility to use all there defined access rights for users and user-groups to certain folder/files and therefore the appropriate data and it enables also the possibility to apply a SSO.

By DMS Qlik itself controlled the authentication. Means further you need to create appropriate user-accounts and groups and you could then authorize them to each single application.

You could not really have both. In general it's possible to mix multiple authentications but it could become complex and will always cost some efforts. AFAIK the NT authentication is more common but both methods have their benefits and disadvantages and it will depend on various aspects which one might be the more suitable way.

You need to enable the DMS authentication within qmc/system/setup/QlikView Servers/YourServer/security (it's there called authorization) and then you create all needed user + usergroups in qmc/system/setup/Directory Service Connectors whereby nested groups do minimize the later efforts.

You may create them in a personalize way like they are created in the active directory or with mail-addresses like many online-services work but it's mandatory not necessary - they could be just a, b, c or relating to functional users like sales-people for area_1, area_2 and so on independent to the real person at this time.

If you decide for a DMS you decide also to the fact that this system must be permanently administrated from the Qlik admin. By thousands of users and/or hundreds of applications it could become a full-time job for a person. Therefore the most companies try to avoid it and trying to maintain only a single source of access rights and group memberships which is then spread to all their systems - OS, storages, databases, ETL, CMS and so on.

When a User is created in qmc/system/setup/Directory Service Connector/Custom Directory, how do I make the user log in to the access point browser as that user?

On the top right of the access point should be a login-link. Normally there is nothing more to do as hitting it and entering the credentials within the now opening popup. This means popup's needs to enabled for the access point.

The green bar has some visual customization but mainly it's the default access point:

Whereby after hitting the login-link (Anmelden is German translation) it switched to a new site (popup-windows were within earlier releases) which provides a view of:

and there you give your credentials. Nothing special in regard to the most logins of any tools/services.
