5GB Data Application Running Slow!!! Interview Question

Hello Experts,

There was an interview question where the client has 5Gb data in one of the application and their app is running slow.

What are the core questions to ask the client before taking an approach in making the application run to a feasible speed.

Not the basic questions like Macros, Hardware, Set analysis etc. But bit more logical keen questions to handle the application in this situation.

Apologies if i am not clear posing the question, please do let me know.

1.What is the Hardware Capacity

2.How many Users are using the application

3.Whether the application being accessed by Ajax or IE Plugin.

check whether application is optimized using optimization best practices.

try to build snow flake schema

use mapping load and applymap for tables where have 2 fields

bring complex expression into script;

and many more using optimiztion best practices available in qlik community

Hi Vish,

1.When your told 5Gb of data I would clarify if this is raw data in SQL/other data source, in QVDs or in the resulting QVW file, as that would have a large impact in the direction you should take for your optimisation.

2. Quantify the performance, How slow is slow? what would they define as a reasonable speed?

Are they looking at application refresh speed or end user UI responses?
