Improving performance: prepare QVD & reload tasks

Hi,

Currently, we have batch files as tasks to prepare QVD files, and to load the models on the server where QV server is installed.

Some of the models are quite big, so opening them at the same time reload tasks are running seems to have a bad impact on performance.

In order to reduce load on this server, I would like to run these tasks on a different server (with a personal QV license).

The 2 servers can be mapped.

This way, the QV server would be busy only with loading the models (and not reloading them).

Could there any problem with such a configuration?

Possibly you meant developer license. I can think of one issue of - not getting server license support for the second server(which is probably just another system and not necessarily a server) from qlik.

Ideally, you should be running Publisher on your second server. Your configuration could work out but will be hard to maintain in my opinion but it could work out for smaller projects.

Consider buying publisher for your second server ( You can use it as a reload engine).

Purchasing publisher is not an option, since it's quite expensive.

I would give it a try in a test environment.

I would say that Publisher would be an overkill if you are just looking to prepare QVDs for your QlikView server.

Also I believe you are aware of the limitations of the personal edition license. But leasing a developer license for the application on the QVD creation server would solve it.

To answer your original question, this configuration does work and there shouldn't be any problems. There will be some manual maintenance but nothing that you can't handle.

Preparing QVDs are normally not the most taxing thing to the server, unless you're trying to reload a lot of them simultaneously. If you are having performance issues you might like to look into your scripts, models and even check if your server is sufficiently spec-ed for the task.

I think my best bet is to isolate the preparing and reloads, and inspect the performance and resources.

I agree there is always a room to improve the scripts and models.
