Microsoft Data Link Error " ... error in initializing provider. Oracle client ..."

We're using Oracle 10.2 and QlikView 11. When we try to set up an OLE DB connection we get an error dialog box:

Title: Microsoft Data Link Error

Description: Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3. or later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.

We re-installed the Oracle client, and that did not resolve the issue.

Any suggestions?

The solution was to add the Oracle bin directory to the system's path variable. It should have been added automatically when the Oracle client was installed, but was not - perhaps because Oracle had been installed mutliple times (and possibly more than one version of Oracle had been installed). In this particular case, the path was:

c:\Oracle\Ora10_2\BIN

So, that's the happy end of the story!
