QVS Resetting License Allocation

For some reason, our qlikview server has reset the license allocation (Doc and Named CALs) twice in the last 24 hrs.

There has not been any atypical admin or user interaction with qlikview. I don't understand what is causing this but need to identify how to prevent this going forward as it causes a major disruption with users since they are unable to access any dashboards on the access point until the licenses have been reallocated.

Can anyone provide clarity or explanation that would help troubleshoot this issue?

There should be connection failures with in services. Can you check event viewer and see if there are any connection failures.

I'm not clear about what you mean.....

I looked through the event viewer but I don't know what I am looking for or expecting to see......?

Hi!

Are you running NTFS or DMS authorization?

If you are running in DMS mode there can be an old bug (corrupt CustomDirectoryData.xml)

Hi,

The license information is stored on the root folder of the QVS, there you will find the .pgo files. If for instance, someone delete those files QVS will reset the license information by creating new files automatically.

Agree! A good "role" to prevent the deletion by mistake is to have them in a separate folder and not where the qvw is located.

Yes, the problem I'm having is that QVS is recreating those files regardless of whether they exist or not every time the service (and/or server itself) is restarted....

That's curious... Maybe it's worth to check the security settings of the root folder to make sure the user that runs QVS has full access to that folder.

I checked the security for the primary users and they have full access to the root folder.

Hi,

Due to some reason the CAl.pgo file is getting corrupted in QV11 and because of that the License information is getting reset some time. The bug is already raised by users to Qliktech and they are working on this.

WORKAROUND:-

You can take the backup of cal.pgo file on regular interval and replace it whenever it get corrupted or you can write a script to check and replace the file automatically.

Thanks for the information, I haven't seen this bug before and I am using QV11 as well. Whats the SR that this bug exists? Do you know the id of the bug you mentioned?

Hi ,

Sry , I do not remember the BUG ID. It exist in Initial Release as well as in SR1 . Might have fixed in SR2 but did not tested yet.
