Execute QMC jobs from command line in QV11

I'd like to be able to do this without the desktop client. I want to run jobs in QMC directly from the command line so they can be triggered by an externally scheduled process. Is it possible? It looks all of the topics regarding this are for prior versions.

Another question related to this - IT is suggesting I install the desktop on the publisher server. They woudl then schedule jobs from their enterprise scheduler to execute desktop reloads from the commandline. That gives them more visibility since they'll be able to monitor the app reload directly versus the EDX just firing off independent tasks.

I can see the advantage of doing it that way, but I know every task may not be able to be run in that fashion.

I'm curious if anyone else has any other thoughts.

Hi Mike Reese,

I'm using exactly this solution, EDX with command line, and don't have any problems with it. The only difference is that in my case it is triggerred by user request (button click) rather than by schedule. It is a little simple by schedule, I think.

As the using desktop client - it will work for sure. The only problem is that it'll be using CAL. If it's not a problem let IT choose whatever they prefer.

BTW, QVS handles EDX task the same way as any other task, hence they are quite "moinitorable"...

Hi Mike! I totally agree. I have the EDX solution running and it works fine, plus you still get all of the logging/alert benefits that Publisher offers. But when it's fired from the command line, IT won't have as much visibility as the QV admins. Not sure that really matters anyway as the QV admin will have to support any issues anyway.

I have to get a better understanding of how running desktop from the command line actually benefits IT in a way that adds more value to QV admins.

The one thing that I don't want to do is add a separate process and consume a CAL if we don't need to.

Hi Rob,

Is it also possible to trigger a 'normal' scheduled reload in stead of a EDX reload.

If you use a SBE server you don't have the luxe to add another reload for the same document...
