Object id question

Hi,

I know that every object has a unique ID. I'd like to use this ID as a variable to build other objects. Is it possible?

For example:

I have a list box ID "LB01". I want to create a help button that, when clicked, will show a text. This text would be selected in database according to the list box's ID.

So, I want to use the object's ID as a key to locate the correspoding text message in the database. But I need a way to pass a parameter containing this ID for that. How can I pass this parameter?
