Windows Server 2003 vs. 2008: Any Difference?

Dear All,

I was suggested by my vendor that I should use Windows Server 2008 for QlikView Server, but I've been wondering if there are any differene between 2003 and 2008 in terms of Qlikview's performance, functions, services, etc....

Does anyone have good ideas of advantages or disadvantages of using eigher Windows Server 2003 or 2008? Which do you think is better to use 2003 or 2008?

I'm at kind of big trouble of deciding it and troubled.... I'll appreciate even only a few comments....

There're lots of difference between 2003 and 2008, go to Microsoft website or google "2003 differences 2008".

Hi,

I had an issue with ODBC connection from the 2008 server back to old Oracle 8.1 databases, Microsoft are not supporting 64bit to 32bit Oracle drivers.

Also, if you want more than 32gb RAM, you will need Enterprise Server 2008 not the standard version.

Thanks for your response, but my concern is if there are any perfomacne difference of QlikView between when we use WIndows Server 2003 and when we use 2008: not the difference itself of 2003 and 2008.

I have 110gb, no problems now, have a look here, you will probably need Datacentre version.

Thanks for the information. I'll take a look at MS pages for the comparison, but I wonder if there are any superior or advantageous points of using 2008.

We, too, are thinking of moving from Windows Server 2003 64bit to Windows Server 2008 64 bit but weren't sure if there was going to be a bunch of configuration that we'd have to do. We are currently running QlikView 9.0 SR1. Does anyone have any words of advice?
