QlikView Server unable to lease a licence to a different domain user

Hi all,

UI am facing the following problem.

I have installed QlikView server in a specific domain (let's say DomainS).

A User belong to another Domain (let's say DomainU)

In LDAP service i read DomainU users but it seems the user is tored not as DomainU/username but as DomainS/username.

The server is not able to lease a licence cause it said that the assigned cal user diffres from the user who requested the lease.

Can anyone help me ?

How is such using trying to lease the license?

Have her/him try to use the Open in Server with Alternate Identity?

Hi Albert,

the affected user is trying to open a qlikview server file with qlikview desktop.
The user is loggen on the server with the follwing credential:
USERDNSDOMAIN=PHSD.ENET
USERDOMAIN=FCDPPHSD
USERDOMAIN_ROAMINGPROFILE=FCDPPHSD
USERNAME=fce698

I have assigend a CAL to the user shown.
If the user, using QViewDesktop, try to open a qvw file he alwyas get a message that is using a personal edition and he can only open files created by himself.

Where is the file the user is trying to open?

The user needs to lease a license from the QlikView Server to avoid the Personal Edition message, so he/she can open any qvw file.

Does the user open the the document with the "Open in Server"? He has to do that to lease a license. Once he get the license he can open files from disk.

Yes the user did it.

Fist he opened an arbitrary qvw file using Open in Server, then he tried to open a file from disk.

Launch QlikView Desktop client. From the menu and go to File Open in Server. Click Connect and then open a document. The license is now leased from the QlikView Server.
Close and relaunch QlikView Desktop client. May be it work.

Hi Albert,

The user open a file using the option Open in server,

all the server settings seem to be as required.

After doing it the user try to open a file from the file system and he get the error

I have attached some screenshots you can check.

Hi, thanks for the reply, but sadly the user is doing exactly what you suggested but it does not work.

It seems the server is unable to leas the licence

Hi Albert, the error they face is the Personal Edition message

You can check in the attachment files.

I can not try a different identity actually cause only one server admin is allowed to interact with the server and configured in the domain.

What is the full build version of QV Desktop and QV Server (i.e. 12.60.20100)? There was a defect (QV-22449) with License Lease using Alternate Identity in version 12.60 that was fixed in 12.70.

Thanks for the updates.

I am not asking to use a different user, but use the Alternative option to put such user as domain\user as you have mentioned it belongs to a different domain from where the server is.

Another option you could try is opening the Access Point in the QlikView Desktop and then open an app, that is an alternative method to lease the license as well. Is the option 2 of the KB I have shared:

"Option 2: (If custom authentication mechanism is used - v10 SR4 and later)"

My user is in the domain B and the server in the domain A .... what i have to do ?

Regarding option 2 , again i do not understand how to se access point.

The versions are :

QlikView Server: May 2022 SR1

QlikView Desktop; 12.70.20!00.0

Basically you need to follow the steps listed on the article:

Open the QlikView Desktop client
From the menu, goto Settings > User Preferences
Go to the Locations tab and select QlikView Server AccessPoint (URL)
Click the Modify... button
Enter the URL to the QlikView AccessPoint, configured using Custom Authentication
Click OK
Click Apply then OK
From the menu, go to Tools > Open QlikView AccessPoint
Login using the custom credentials
Open a document if a User CAL has not already been assigned. The license is now leased from the QlikView Server
Close and relaunch QlikView Desktop client. You should now be able to work with local documents and the client is fully licensed.

As well as ensure the setting @Bill_Britt has mentioned is enabled on the QMC.
