License Problem with QlikView 12

Good morning, I've installed the new version of QV and the developer license, getting a message that says it has been properly validated, but really continues the Personal Edition and does not allow me to open documents created by me with version 11.20.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Click on Help Menu on the top - >Check About Qlikview(will show you whether it is licensed or not)

Help Manu - > License Update(you can lease license again)

If your QV Desktop is now license-less, and your Qlik Partner license includes a QlikView Server, go re-lease your Named CAL from the server by selecting File->Open in Server from the QV Desktop menu, entering your server path (starts with qvp:// ), clicking Connect and opening any document from the list.

Hi,

You should have a product level line in the LEF of the license. At the end you will see a date and if the date has expired, you will not be able to license any new products.

PRODUCTLEVEL;10;;2013-09-01

You can also obtain Lef information at Manual LEF

I have found that a license that has expired can be used to license 11.2 Personal edition, but not Personal edition 12.

This is not a bug, see my post above. If your license has expired, you are not entitled to the new releases.

We must be misunderstanding each other.

I understand that you can not license QlikView 12 if your license is expired.

What I consider a bug is still being able to license QlikView 11.2 (or any version at all) with an expired license.

We are using a special license which is must be valid for new installs up to 11.2 despite the expiry but not from 12. We are in the process of renewing the license.

Hi,

this is not a bug. What it means is that you cannot license any NEW product released by Qlik. You can perpetually use QlikView Server/Desktop 11 and 11.2 because those versions were released before the expiration date. It would not make any sense if the license for ALL the product were blocked after the expiration date. Like Qlik would say this is the normal / expected behaviour,

Thanks for the explanation, this all sounds reasonable. However is I have a client with a license evidently purchased at level10. and already expired. PRODUCTLEVEL;10;;2015-07-30. Had no problems installing 11.2 which was released prior to this date and using this license. So what does this mean for clients wanting to upgrade to QV12. Is this an upgrade or a NEW product that they will have to purchase again, or do they apply for a new LEF ? I think the later is the case, go to Manual LEF and using your key you get a revised LEF text with a revised expiry date, but it still says PRODUCTLEVEL:10. Will this work or should we be going back to the reseller ?

Onno, I think you're talking about a different type of expiration than Bill is.

A Temporary license can expire after which you can't do anything with it anymore. QVS will stop working and QV Desktop will fall back to PE (I guess). Those licenses have a termination date.

The PRODUCTLEVEL date IMHO tells QlikView until what date you have paid your Maintenance fee and are entitled to upgrades. This date doesn't really make licenses expire, just your entitlement to upgrades. That's what Bill is telling us.

Simon, what your customer can do best is update his license (done automatically over the internet in case the server has a live connection) or resume paying maintenance fees (if the customer stopped paying maintenance fees for some reason). As far as I know, QV12 is not a new product, just a new release of an existing product, to which customers that pay their maintenance fees on a regular basis can upgrade as usual.

Please correct me if I'm wrong somewhere/everywhere.
