URGENT Question on Licence Lease Issue! Help please!

Morning Folks,

we have a client who is struggling to lease a licence. They have a licence allocated on the server and licence lease is enabled, when attempting the process using the 'Open in Server' option, they get the following:

I have read elsewhere that the user needs to have Admin Rights on their local PC, can someone confirm this is the case?

They are running Qv11.2 SR 13.

Another user with full Domain Access rights, has attempted the routine without issue on the SAME PC

A common cause of this error message is a firewall blocking traffic on port 4747. But I doubt that this is the case here, mostly because the message says "Security settings denies access"

You say "Full Domain Access rights"; what do you mean by that? Anonymous access to a web server can be provided for by letting IIS use a dummy Windows identity. However, for other services this trick doesn't work, as the Windows server won't let you access any other ports as anonymous except for port 80 (and maybe 443).

Has port 4747 been enabled in the proper zone? Does the user-to-lease-a-license exist in the domain of the QlikView server?

that user must have named cal assigned on that server.

and enter ntname password of that user.

Also check with user who is assign to services have changed credentials.

Hi Peter,

The user has a domain account and both PC and QV Server are in the same domain. Sorry, the user has got their IT Team involved and the IT manager logged into the users PC with their DOMAIN ADMIN account and could connect OK, PS he can connect via the access point.

All ports are open, they are NOT using IIS

There is a quarantine period on the license if the cal was reallocated to the user..That might be the issue here.

Something in the error message is still nagging me: why is the connection switching to HTTP tunneling if "all ports are open"? Tunneling is used by QVWS when a user cannot directly reach QVS through port 4747. And direct access to port 4747 is required to lease a license...

It's not that this is a problem with leasing a license per se! IMHO your customer cannot even use QV Desktop as a regular (IE Plugin-like) client to open AccessPoint documents... That should work in any case, even when the Named CAL cannot be leased (because of being leased two times already to different machines for example)

What happens when you manually type in the user id in the specified user prompt on the authentication group?

is the user able to login to the access point and access the doc successfully?

This has been dragging on for ages, but we think it's now working. In a nutshell the user has had to use:

qvp://servername

and not

qvp://servername.domain.xxxx

though we could use open in server with the fully qualified name on the server itself.

Any one know why this would be?
