Hierarchy question

Hello!

We have created hierarchy with Qlikview from *qvd file.

Every record has attribute "Product type". Some of records have values of this attribute, some - not.

The task is to update heerarchy data from the file: if an record has no value in this attribute ("Product type"), then go to the parent_id and copy it's value.

If parent record has no value, then we look for the value parent_id for parent record and etc to the root. If value was not found, then put "diff" value to the attribute ("Product type") record (with what we start).

Can someone help or give example (script) how to work with hierarchy elements (parent-child), how can I refer to this elements. Any ideas?
