Using the DIRECT statement, you'll load ALL values for ALL dimensions and specify fields that you will use in Expressions with the 'IMPLICIT' qualifier. What this implies is a query is issued on your data source every time you make selections. Bottom-line - to obtain in-memory like performance, you'll need a blazing fast query engine like IBM Netezza or EMC Greenplum or Hadoop Hive.
