Hi,

My company needs to purchase a new server for Qlikview hosting.

I need to figure out what specification this server has to have, e.g. Amount of RAM memory needed, Hard Disk volume, CPU (how many cores...)

Here are some details that should be taken into account:

1. Our QVW takes 6 GB

2. It should support 100 users in total, 30 of them may use it concurrently

3. The company data volume supposed to grow, so the scalability is important.

Thanks,

Guy

Thanks a lot, it is quite helpful. Do you have a recommendation for the brand name of the server (e.g. Dell, HP...)

I have never run into any negative experiences with server brands yet, so just about anything should do. There are likely others on the forum that have other opinions, but not me. One other thing, if you are planning to run this as a virtual server, there are considerations to consider. Be sure to do your research accordingly.

Good luck,

Nate

You can do that, or you can go with what you have already. If you're IT Dept has a contract with Dell for servers, then go with Dell Servers. If you have a particular affinity for HP, then use them. I would never just go with the lowest bidder, because I am a believer in the phrase "You get what you pay for", so if you buy cheap, you get cheap. Get a good server from a company you trust.

I would start with the IT department and see what they recommend. If they don't help you, which I would find hard to believe becuase any IT person with his salt will have a server brand to recommend, then ask some IT managers for recommendations. Historically, I have worked with Dell's, and they have been great, but I don't want to tell you what to buy, you need to do the research and follow policy for yourself. I know some guys don't like QV on AMD processors. So shop around, gather information, make a good decision for you, or your customer.

Good luck,

Nate

Thanks again. Actually, we have already use Dell Server, which is performing great.

I think we need to have 256GB of RAM, with the ability to be expanded up to 1TB, and 2 * 8 cores (Xeon of Intel).

Have a good Weekend!

Guy
