However, when I come to re-open the document I get a '....created by another user QlikView Personal Edition user.....' warning. Please see image below.

I've tried this out on a number of newly-created documents but the moment I exit QlikView I lose the capability to re-open each document.

I have a single copy of QlikView installed on my laptop and a single log-in.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

These aren't documents created on another version, or on another computer, or under a different user ID.

In other words, this is the scenario :

1. I open QlikView and create a document.

2. I save the document.

3. I close QlikView.

4. I re-open QlikView.

5. I try to open the document I'd previously created and saved.

6. The warning message displays !

This is the problem.

Thanks

With the QlikView Personal Edition license, everyone is free to create QlikView documents for personal use. If at any point you or your organization decides to acquire a full QlikView license, this QVPE installation will automatically become a full QlikView client without requiring any additional software.

If you have never licensed QlikView before and want to use the tool to perform analysis on any sort of business or personal data set, or have an existing QlikView installation and want to try out our latest release (version 9.0 SR1), QVPE is for you; download and start connecting to all of your data sources and building your analysis applications.

How can I get started making my first QlikView?

If you have data available in an Excel file, starting up QlikView will take you through a simple process to get your data loaded and your first QlikView built within 5 minutes. Here is a sample video made by one of our partners illustrating this process: QlikView 10 Excel Wizard

What are the limitations of QVPE?

There are only two limitations while using QlikView with the Personal Edition license:

QlikView Personal Edition works with local files only; you cannot share your QlikView file with another unregistered user, or load a QlikView file from another user (except for specially modified files, more on that here).

You cannot import an entire document layout (sheets/objects/security settings, etc. without the data) into QVPE.

What is "Document Recovery" and when should I use it?

Please read carefully: Technically, every document is now saved with a user key -- information that ties that file to the file's creator. In Personal Edition, users can only open files that they have created.

We recognize that it may be necessary to install QlikView on a different computer (i.e. computer upgrade, replacement, etc.). In order to open documents created using the previous installation of QlikView, you will need to "recover" the files. Recovering files simply means that you are assigning an updated user key (old machine -> new machine) to these documents. When you recover a file, you are telling QlikView that you are moving this file to your new installation, and you will no longer be using it on your previous installation.

IMPORTANT: QlikView Personal Edition is limited to four recoveries per installation. When you recover a QlikView file created with a previous installation, it will apply your new user key to ALL documents created using the previous installation, not just that particular file.

DO NOT attempt to open QlikView files that you did not create (from the forums, created by a colleague, etc.) Doing so will use one of your remaining recovery attempts, and once you have exhausted all 4 of the attempts, you will no longer be able to access documents that you have created and, from that point on, you will only be able to create new documents using your current QlikView installation.

Do QVPE Users qualify for upgrades?

Yes. We post new releases on the web using our QlikView download page. You can redownload QlikView at any point and install an updated version on your existing machine and continue working with documents that you have already created. NOTE: If you have exhausted your recovery attempts, downloading a new version or redownloading the same version will not reset the counter.

Do QVPE Users qualify for telephone/online support? What kind of help is available?

QVPE users do not qualify for telephone or email support from QlikTech. As a Personal Edition user, you can gain excellent QlikView support through our active user community, QlikCommunity. We've created this dedicated area of QlikCommunity for Personal Edition users to get to information on how to start using QlikView as well as allow you to interact with other members of the community. All of the content in this section is accessible to our members, but you must register with QlikView to post questions in the forum, download files and register for training.

Error: "Access Denied. The file was created by a licensed QlikView user..."

As mentioned above, QlikView Personal Edition can only open files created locally by that same installation.

Just simple save

Never opened file created by some other user.

Seems that the product has a bug that is being reported from 2009. Likely a logic error which is tied to network the machine is on when the last save was performed. This is a faulty logic for laptop users and I am surprised to see so many frustrated users complaining about it for so long on this forums.

There is no prj folder being created in this case. Thus this work around is not applicable.

I see that users have been complaining on this issue from posts dating back to 2009 and still no good fix from Qliktech. Apart from network ip change, the only other change I made was change my password (same domain and user name). Seems there is a bug in the logic that someone at QlikTech needs to pay attention to instead of keeping such a long trail of unhappy and frustrated users.

The issue is confirmed as a known bug in 11.20 SR2 and SR3 Personal Edition and will be fixed in the next SR. Meanwhile, the workaround, which has been mentioned in the thread, is to delete the prj-folder. Another way is to use "save"/"CTRL+S" instead of "Save as" when saving.

/Christian

Hi everybody,

is it possible that this issue still is not fixed?

I am using QlikView for Windows version 12.0.20000.0 64-bit Edition and still have the same problem, e.g.:

1. I open QlikView, create a document, save the document, I close QlikView.

2. Still on my laptop, same login, sometimes connected via different networks (office/home), I re-open QlikView and try to open the document I'd previously created and saved - the error message displays!

I have this same issue. If I were to save a new document, then close I'm unable to open it and presented with the same message everyone else has been describing.

I'm hoping to demo Qlik to my company as a new BI offering however this bug has been slowing the demo drastically. As a workaround I'm having to copy the load script to a separate document and reload it every time I have to close Qlik (or even worse, reload my manually created document whenever Qlik crashes).

Updates or other workarounds?

Hi Les,

My QVW is Not reopening. When I made the QVW initially, I copied the Load Script (Ctrl + E) to a notepad document and continuously saved it there. If/when QlikView is closed or shuts down unexpectedly I copy and paste the latest version of that notepad document

I have a separate notepad document which acts as a sort of changelog/checklist to make sure all the other elements, charts, variables, etc are re-added properly. It's a bit tedious but works.
