Help with Qlikview Server

Hi all,

I am very new with Qlikview and the company I work for just had its first implementation.

We have installed the Qlikview Small Business Edition on a client's virtual server but still have some questions that I need urgent help with.

How do clients connect to the Qlikview access point without logging into their server(If its possible)

Hi,

It is possible but you have to assign CALS to the clients otherwise clients cant open applications through access point

Hi Ayodele,

Access Point is one of the component of Qlikview which is used by end user as a portal to view all applications/dashboard/qvw file. It is just a web application for end users.

If you visit at the Management console you will get an overview

System Tab > Qlikview Web Servers (One of the services) > Access Point Tab

Hi Ayodele,

If the installation has gone correctly then the users will be able to go to the access point via their web browser. The URL will be http://[your server name]/QlikView . From here users should be able to open documents on from your server.

There are a number of things that need to happen correctly for this to happen, including:

- Firewalls and network need to be configured correctly

- Active directory permissions need to be given

- CALs need to be granted to users (or set to auto allocate)

- QlikView documents need to be in a folder that is published via QlikView

You will find further information on all of these things on QlikCommunity - or post back here advising how far you get and what your users see when they attempt to access that URL.

Hi Ayodele,

Being on a virtual server makes no difference. In fact, I would say more than half of the servers I have installed QlikView server on have been virtual boxes. It only becomes an issue if you are pushing performance to the absolute max.

Hi Ayodele,

It would also depend on if the virtual server was hosted in your company network, or outside such as an Amazon cloud server.

If it’s within your company network there shouldn’t be an issue to reach the AccessPoint webpage and your IT team should be able to assist if there are security or firewall issues.

If you’re using an Amazon cloud virtual server there is some additional configuration and considerations such as firewalls, how to get data into your server and how to authenticate your users – there are some articles and whitepapers on the community around this topic if interested.

As I read that you have installed Qlikview Small Business Edition on Virtual Machine, I will be needing your help.

Even I am trying to Install it on Azure Platform. Can you help me in this??

Yes, We have successfully installed Q.V S.B.E on a virtual machine but not any Azure platform which i believe is a cloud application/hosting service by Microsoft. Looking through the community I noticed you have asked earlier for any resource or assistance on this but nothing concrete though Re: Is it possible to install Qlikview Small Business Edition on Azure or any Virtual Machine? and also someone else Re: Qlikview on Microsoft Azure

Though they all suggest possibilities! I will advice if you could direct this question to QlikView Support or perhaps top experienced QlikView users via tweeter or email.

Hi Meghana,

I've not got experience of Azure, but I suspect it is built on HyperV technology and there are generally no problems installing on virtual machines using HyperV (or VMWare or Virtual Box). What can sometimes be a problem is if you have a memory intensive app and you are not pre-allocating enough RAM to the server (ie. you are sharing it between virtual boxes). Whether this would be a problem on Azure I don't know.

Can you RDP to the machine as an administrator using Azure?

I have done successful implementations on RackSpace and Amazon, if the Azure option is not cast in store for you.

I've installed on Azure, works just fine. It's just a VM. Need to remember to allow traffic through the firewall and set up the endpoints to be able to access remotely though.
