How can i get advanced qlikview knowledge ?

Hi There I am new to QLikView and i must say it is pretty amazing. Anyway i am used to old MDX B.I style.

I have worked through the QLikview ELEarning , finished the tutorial and started looking at demo's. However i have so many questions and need advanced knowledge. Especially on scripting and expressions, set analysis etc. I cannot find any books on qlikview, so basically my question is where do i go next ?

How do i learn more about how to do common mdx stuff like parrallel periods variance , sales over months in QLikview expressions, how do i script a table that has multiple time keys that would normally require multiple dimensions.

etc etc.

Any point in the right direction to getting more advanced helpful documentation on QLikview would be geratly appreciated, especially advanced scripting for complex data models and equivalant expressions for common MDX functions.

Hi,

personally speaking I attended a QV class and this helped me a lot, bacause there are some little hints and tricks not so easy to discover and find in the documentation or out of this community.

The other big resource, in my opinion, is the help on line, more than the documentation on paper, and, last but not least this community forum.

But over all, one of the main elements you have to take in consideration, is the different approach to BI, so while scripting, try to avoid then use of standard SQL statement, and use, instead the QV scripting language and methods.

My advice, in this exactly order:
1. Go through QV tutorial, and try making changes of your own.
2. Go through QV online documentation
3. Try to build a few QV applications, not too complex.
4. Take a look at APIGuide, and try to create a few macros.
5. Take formal training with QV or one of its partners.
6. Use this forum when you have problems/questions.
7. Get experience...

All good suggestions. I didn't take a class, but I did complete the eLearning course.

Helping people on the forum here (and just reading other posts) helps you with problems that you may not necessarily have in your own projects. It's a great way to expand your knowledge past the basics.

While QlikView may be a revolutionary product, a lot of QlikView concepts can be applied to many different business intelligence products. You have to identify which areas you want to learn more about. If you want to know more about scripting, most any SQL query resource would be helpful. If your looking to create better charts, look for tips on Excel charts and other general chart information.

While there may not be a QlikView book (yet!), many of the resources that are out there could help increase your QlikView knowledge.

That is indeed a great way to learn if you learn by doing. Just because you don't know the answer when you read the question doesn't mean you can't figure it out. And if you can figure it out, then you've figured out a real world practical example instead of a mere training exercise. On top of that, you've helped someone else out. Start with questions that look easy, and work your way up. That's how I taught myself set analysis, for instance. 🙂

I am working out things for myself, i also have found the share QLikViews as an excellent resource, i have learnt a lot from looking at other people's work.

On point 2, are you referring to the online help, the reference manaual or both ? If there is other documentations you are referring to where can i find it ?

hello guys,

Same thing for me. I use qlikview everyday and now really need an advanced training in order to be more efficient. But it seems that the advanced training is not availlable in France... Sometimes I think that qlikview partners try to keep the know how for themselves...

But anyway, if someone can help me with documentation or qvw samples with specific instructions in the script, i will really appreciate.

My #2 is mostly about online help. Reference manual is pretty much the same as help, but sometimes in contains some additional info.
Well, and nothing is more valuable then training others and solving problems here, as Rakesh pointed out... But I think it's rather 7.5 then 6.5

Hi,

Did you download the Tutorial and Reference Manual that is available with QV 9 to download? Please do that. the tutorial will be enough to get you started, however for advanced knowledge, the refrence Manual and the automation guide will be required.

It will be lot of read & do required.

Dear,

Here is the way I started.

First 2 days - Demo by an export - 'Not Bad'

Next 1 week - Read throght developers giude and saw some samples - 'Interesting'

Next 1 week - Tried soem samples with record set features - 'WOW'

Then onwards - fell in love!

Sky is the limit for your QV dreams. Try out the descrete programming logic in C/Java etc mainly using sets. Everything will work and the application will be more faster.
