I have a QVD data file where one date field is PERIOD_TO

I want to load data restricting where PERIOD_TO<='31-08-2014'

But it is giving error message. Pls help me to modify the where condition

PERIOD_TO >= '31/08/2016' // or MM/DD/YYYY
