Data Selection Issue

Hi All,

Could someone please help me understand the behavior of Qlikview with the following selections. I have attached the "Whats new in QV 11" app to give you a testing copy of the issue i am facing.

In the attached QVW, i have made some selections like below.

Region		USA
Year		2010
Month		Aug
Quarter		Q3
Customer		C & C Design

Now, when i select a different month apart from the months that belong to Q3, (Lets say i select "Jan" form the month filter) all of my other selection gets cleared off, though Data does exist for that selection also.

You can try this out on your own and please help me understand why this happens.

I am using QV 11.2 SR 6.

Sorry, I misread the problem.

I am only seeing this problem if the month selected is not associated with the other selections

Try selecting:

JAPAN, 2011, Q1

Then months Jan, Feb or Mar - should be ok

But Apr will clear the selections.

Yes, Exactly, Any idea why it clears the selections, though the data or the key links do exist for the other selection also.

Hello Adil,

This is the magic of associative nature of qlikview.

Q3 and August are associated (in WHITE), but Q3 and Jan (as you select Q3, JAN Greys Out) are not associated.

You can continue your can selection as far as you are selective Values that are associated, if you select a non associated value all previous selections will clear off and only your new selection will come into effect.

However you can put an restriction on selecting non-associative values.

Hi Aadil,

I wouldn't expect the selections to be cleared if the data exists for the combination of selections you are making. That wouldn't make sense.

For your selection Jan is not associated with the selected data only Jul\Aug\Sep:

Hi Aadil,

When you select some 'grey' value others fields will be deselected, it's kind of normal that all other fields are deselected, there is when the use of locking selections is usefull, you can lock Region and Year to keep those values selected.

Hi Mark,

Sorry, if I am not explaining this clearly.

There is data available for " C & C Design" for Jan of 2010. But still the Jan selection clears off these selected values. Which is a little confusing.

It might be because I am on 11.2 SR8.

Can you take a screenshot of your selections and the months.

I would understand that Q3 gets deselected when Jan is selected because of associative search. but why would the year or region get deselected. Jan is still a valid selection under those?

Hi All,

I think this should be the normal behavior of QlikView

Please go through the attached dashboard Movies Database(QlikView Model sheet).

I have applied the following selections:

Director: Akira Kurosawa

Title: Akahige

Actor: Akemi Negishi

Now, Akira Tani(Actor) is shown in Grey.

When I select Akira Tani, it only clears off the Title but the Director remains selected.

Can someone help me in understanding this?

If you go backwards, you will observe, when you select Akira Tani, it is not associated with Title-Akahige but associated with only one Director- Akira Kurosawa, That's why director remains selected.

Attached is a video of the scenario i am explaining in here. If you observer when i Select Jan, the other values gets cleared, but they do appear " in White" which means that they are associated with Jan selection, but just getting cleared for some reason.

I tried with Actor 'Snub' Pollard who has multiple directors, and my initial selection (Director - Charles Chaplin) still remains

Hi,

In response to your selections and what happens when you select Jan.

With your current selection

Region		USA
Year		2010
Month		Aug
Quarter		Q3
Customer		C & C Design

Notice that the Month "Jan" is Grey, this means that there is no data in the table with your current selections that have month January. So when you click Grey January, Qlikview will make a new selection as your new selected field was not dessicated with your previous selection. i hope i got that right.
