You will see it with a hex editor: EF BF BF&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Wikipedia:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The byte order mark (BOM) is a Unicode character used to signal the endianness (byte order) of a text file or stream.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I don't know yet how to fix but you should probably talk to the owner of the data..&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
