QVD Encryption

Has anyone used or needed it ?

The purpose is encrypt one, many rows on DataBase, CSV, QVD/X generation and

on Edit Script decrypt them.

Performance reduced in more than 10%.

Can you be more precise in stating what question you are asking?

The data in a QVD can be accessed by anyone with a copy of QlikView Personal Edition or a QVD reader such as Q-Eye.

I have answer the first post.

You can open QVD but the column are encrypt.

is possible too delete QVD file after end Edit Script or empty it ....

I have had need to encrypt QVDs. I've used Windows File Encryption for that purpose. It's pretty straightforward.

Using the Windows Encrypted File System (EFS). At it's simplest, all you need to do is click Advanced in a Folder properties and check "Encrypt Contents".

With that process You encrypt the whole file not the data (columns) inside it.

It will not be read by QV.

Yes, it does encrypt the entire file, including the data. It is transparently read correctly by QV (with no effort on QV part) as long as the reading userid is authorized. Unauthorized userids will not be able to decrypt. It's worked fine when I've used it and it's very simple.

The old EFS encrypt the file and protect it on Windows Systems.

"... if the password is lost or reset, or if the operating system fails or is reinstalled,

it becomes impossible to gain access to the EFS-encrypted files on the drive.

In fact, access can be lost irreversibly."

If Your want transfer the QVD to another System's (Domain) EFS "cannot" be used.

There are some cases that the Client (I'm partner) doesn't want access

to QVD's files from no one.

Finally, If You has access to QVD you can copy it every time You want ....
