Plugin Upgrade - Can I upgrade plugin before server (Silent Install across 400 plus users)

I'm currently planning a QV Server upgrade from v11.2 SR7 to SR12. I'm thinking about executing a silent publication of the plug-in a day or two before the server upgrade. This will give it a chance to land on the user hardware prior to the server upgrade. My question is will I have any compatibility issues that I need to worry about. Will the SR7 AccessPoint work with the SR12 plug-in or should I wait and upgrade both pieces together.

I would highly recommend upgrading everything in parallel. In Support, we've certainly noticed issues from time to time, but more importantly, R&D does not necessary regression test against mismatched plugin versions especially on IE plugin versions released after a given SR (because that'd be impossible).

Would you mind sharing how you do the execution of a silent publication of the plug-in to the users desktops? We have a problem whereby if any user gets put onto a new operating system, we have to install the plugin manually and most users run into issues before someone realizes what needs to be done..

From my experience, I upgraded to SR 12 at client before server and noticed some glitches like in the accesspoint:

Unwanted borders around pie charts
distorted selection indicator

So, it is recommended to keep them in synchronization. After all you probably don't get any advantage/new feature support with only newer plugin version, right?

Take the chance to skip Plugin and use Ajax client instead?

Thanks for all of the input.. I think I will install all components at one time. As for Ajax if your user base uses shared objects the IE plug-in is a better tool for building content. Some users have tried Ajax and reverted back to the plug-in..

We have not deployed over multiple Windows versions and by this I'm referring to Windows 7 and Windows 8 environments. We will however be deploying over both with this release update and I will share what I can with the community. We are planning a late November upgrade so I will add to this post when we have completed the upgrade.

Extract the MSI from the EXE then run msiexec /i "C:\installer.msi" ALLUSERS=1 /quiet. That should work according to some of our documentation but I haven't verified this string in ages.
