Is it possible to password protect a QVW document without using Section Access?

The important thing is that I needed to accomplish my requirement which was to have a password protected document without linking it to any specific user. I was under the impression that it wasn't possible using Section Access, but I was proved wrong. So changing the title from '...without Section Access' to '...with or without Section Access'.

I have used OSUser() and set that to a certain user names or groups via Active Directory. It seems like you are looking for something more robust.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I don't want to link it to any specific person.

A good example would be to see how Excel files are password protected. Anybody with a password can easily access them. I am looking for the same functionality in QlikView.

Do you think its possible?

Hmmm,

Maybe, set an event trigger on open and ask for a password, then based on that password set a variable 1 or 0. If it is 1, then make some sheets visible.

Now that I think about it, the problem is that it would still open the app. They just won't see stuff until the correct password is entered, but the document properties would still be available, right? I want that until the correct password is provided, the user cannot see or alter any data and setting.

I am looking for a functionality similar to that of Excel where anybody with the password can view the document. Is that doable through Section Access? or do I have to list the name of all potential users?

Stefan it worked one time and the next time I open it doesn't ask for a password and also I am seeing something weird that once I have Section Access, the option to look at the Hidden Script is going away. Is this normal?

Hi Sunny,

change ACCESS to ADMIN, USER has restricted rights set in Settings - Document properties - Security, hence limitations like hidden script hidden.

If you once logged in into a QVW with section access, you won't be asked for credentials again as long as you are using the same application instance. Close the instance and reopen. You should be queried again.

The problem with using an OnOpen trigger and Macro code is that you can disable the trigger when opening the QVW, keeping SHIFT pressed.

It just asked me for the password only once until I changed the user settings:

Unchecked 'Remember Login Credentials Until QlikView Exits' and it asked me for a password everytime.

Hahahaha it is . But intitially I was under the impression that there is no way I can get my requirement accomplished using Section Access, but it seems I was wrong.
