Is Calendar Object capable to except typed-in values?

Hello,

It is simple Calendar Object exist within an application.

The question I think is very straight forward: is it available a functionality to insert the type-in values instead of selecting from the calendar?

If answer is positive, I would appreciate the tip for the solution.

Yes. If you click on the left part of the calendar object a drop down list will appear. You can then start typing the date.

I guess my question was not explicit enough.

Let me try again. The functionality I am looking for to let users in Access Point be able to type-in the desired date instead of selecting from calendar within Calendar object. Is it doable?

Hopefully with this clarification the question would make more sense now.

Greeting QV Experts,

The purpose of this message is to clarify some concerns raised within functionality on this Forum.

At this point I don’t have any valuable respond on the question I submitted which I consider as very straight forward (name of the post). Let me provide my thoughts.

Since QlikView documentation not always able to provide any extensive knowledge of the application (to be polite), it seems that Forum is designed to be the primary source for getting question answered by support model promoted by management.

In this prospective, it is odd not to have answer at all even if potentially it could be negative (meaning something is not doable as I am assuming in my case). It is possible since any software including BI has it’s own limitations. The most important is how the company dealing with this kind of situations.

Based on my previous experience, I can provide the possible scenarios.

- the respond is obvious if answer exists and QV experts providing a great support in these kind of cases;

- the most complicated scenario if answer is not available (as I noticed the substantial number of posts with ‘Not Answered’ status – how it could be?) for REASONABLE request meaning something is not doable. In this case the issue needs to be escalated for evaluation and possible solution implementation in the following releases (with appropriate respond to requestor). Only in this scenario, the application would be progressive in self-evolution;

The reason I am taking the time to write this note is the fact that it seems I’ll be dealing with QlikView analytical application for significant amount of time and it is my best interest to have it as greatest available BI tool on the market.

Your message explains a lot to me.

Just letting you know that Knowledge Base within Support site your referred me to not able to clarify my simple question (I have explored all possible knowledge sources including this one even before forum’s posting). Obviously I am not able to log a support case either since this option available for partners only.

In any case it appears not really productive to continue this discussion on the level of Forum within prospective it was offered.

I don't think that's entirely correct. If you're a direct customer of Qlik (instead of a customer of a Qlik Partner) then you should also be able to log a support case. If you're a customer of a Qlik Partner then you should log a case with the Qlik Partner.

To get back to your original question: It is not possible to use a calendar object the way you seem to want it to work. It works like I explained. You can type in the date and select it when finished typing it. But you can't do it without seeing the drop down list of possible dates. Perhaps you want to use an inputbox instead and store the user input in a variable and then use that variable to select the date in the date field.

Hello Gysbert,

I am aware that as customer of a Qlik Partner I am allowed to log the case with QV Support through the Partner, but appears it is not very effective way to get response for the simple question. I keep this opportunity to work through number of more complicated issues I have available.

The way it was proposed to work is very confusing for the users and wouldn’t be able satisfy requirements. It is really questionable why ordinary Calendar Object doesn’t work out-of-box the way it is expected to work, but as I understand other channels should be used in order to clarify that.

I got an answer on the question I submitted.
