I have show trendline in a Bar chart.

For eg:

The total no of students in 3 class for the 3 years. i need to joint the max value for each class through a line.. basically showing the trend for consecutive years.

But the trendline is not showing in correct way .

Please somebody can help 😞

For eg:

There are three different bar with values 15, 50 ,35 . i need to join them through a ref line . where ref line takes the max value for each bar i.e15 50,35.. like these there are 3 Bars for each year in total if we have to join according to there max value.

i tried reference line option in presentation page and trendline option in expression page.. but with no positive result..

Hi,

You can try converting the chart into a combination chart and then in display options select both Bar and Line for the expression. This will give you both the bar and Line joining the values.

I started buildng a new combo chart I don't know selecting combo chart .. the line option is coming disabled..

The sample QV is showing what exactly i am trying to do for different expression . but the problem that is Coming is in combo chart the option for Line is being disabled..

Sorry I am new to this Community. I am not able to load my QVW File here for your ref .. can you guide 🙂

For enabling Combo chart:
Right click Chart >> Properties>> General Tab
>> Select Chart type as combo(The third from left in the top row)
Once this is selected you should be able to select both Line and Bar in the expression selected in Expressions tab.

Can you try the attached & let me know if that's what you want.

I changed the chart type on the General tab to Combo, then made the Only(QA) expression a line type.

Thanks alot Nigel,

Even i selected the combo chart in first general tab .

Anyways i wanted the line to touch the top of each bar . taking QA it should pass from the top of blue bars . i got the same chart whe i was trying earlier with combo charts . i added three exp for line which joined the QA , UAT and SIT bars for different values on X axis but it returned me worong trendline

I don't think it will be possible to have a line joining the top of each bar when there are more than 1 bar in a group. The line will place the line point in the center of the bar group.

Like here you have 3 bars, so the only line that will be possible to be touching the top of the bars is for the middle bar UAT. For the other 2 it would show the line points on the UAT bar.

If you have only one bar then you can get the line how you want it.

If you can send us a sample output that you are trying to achieve, may be in excel if its possible of an image.
