Hello everyone,

I have been having some fun with Dynamic updates on AJAX and on QVP alike, I have come to some interesting findings and wanted to know if any of you have had the same problems and have found some solutions for it.

using a test server with the following specs:

Windows version

# CPUs

Type CPUs

GHz CPU

# RAM

Working set

Qlikview version

Win 2012

16

Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2686 v4

2.3GHz

122GB

60%-70%

11.20.13206 SR13

We have done the tests below and obtained worrying results:

Actions

Fail reason

Multiple users execute an Update dynamic update at the same time

The application freezes for both users and no other users can provide Dynamic updates. To resolve this we have to restart the services

When someone logs in and a server side exports precedes it by a few seconds

The export is successful but the user is unable to log in and a next dynamic update is unable to fire of.

When someone logs in and at the same time someone executes an update dynamic update

the dynamic update fails and the user is unable to log in, no other user is able to use dynamic updates after this point.

We have been searching quite a lot to find the root cause of it but we think it is in the lines of the ram model freezing.
It seems Com objects and CPU power also has some influence into this.

Thank you very much for your help 🙂

Dynamic Update is an old feature that Qlik never got to work very well. It is buggy and poorly documented. It is not meant as a multi-user feature at all - in the documentation it is clearly stated that it should only be used by administrators and as a single user.

Here is a nine year old technical paper that QlikTech made about Dynamic Update.
