    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi Cliff,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Set Analysis doesn't allow functions on the left from the equals sign, only field names, So, the right syntax here is:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Aging = {"d*"} - select values in the field Aging that begin with the letter d.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Play with Upper and lower case though, it's working in strange ways...&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;You can learn advanced Set Analysis techniques from my lecture at the &lt;A href="https://masterssummit.com/"&gt;Masters Summit for Qlik&lt;/A&gt; - coming to Boston in October!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;cheers,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Oleg Troyansky&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <title>Set Analysis expression using Left function</title>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;I am trying to get this expression working using Set Analysis because it renders very slowly if I write it as an If expression.&amp;nbsp; I can't figure out what the proper syntax is for using the Left function.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;sum({&amp;lt;[Period] = {'P1'},[Vendor Type] = {'3PL'}, left([Aging],1)={'d'}&amp;gt;} [LineItems])&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 13.3333px;"&gt;left([Aging],1)={'d'} - this is what is not working&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
